Free Flying at Kuala Lumpur Bird Park

  • i

The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park was declared open by the Queen of Malaysia in 1991. Located just 10 minutes away from the city centre, this bird park that spans approximately 20.9 acres belongs to an area known as the Lake Gardens.

It is also globally well known as being the world's largest free flight aviary. This means that the birds are not tamed and are free to fly within the large aviary that resembles their natural habit. This free flight concept also allows the birds to breed naturally within the park's premises.

Being a major tourist attraction in Malaysia, the park receives around 200,000 visitors every year to watch more than 3,000 birds belonging to as many as 200 species. It is home to both local birds as well as rare species brought from all over the world from places ranging from Holland, South America, Australia, Africa, Tanzania to China and many more.

The Lake Garden also comprises other attractions such as a Butterfly House, Hibiscus (Hibiscus being Malaysia's national flower) and Orchid gardens, an artificial lake, jogging tracks, the National Monument as well as the former Malaysian parliament house.

The park has areas dedicated to various bird species such as a Hornbill park, a Flamingo pond and World of Parrots. Some of the events that take place here everyday include the feeding sessions of Milky Storks, Hornbills, Ostriches, Parrots and Eagles as well as the bird show.

It is also a great place to have a picnic with friends or family or simply enjoy the chirping of birds in truly natural surroundings. The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park not only attracts tourists, but also researchers who are keen to study these various birds and their habitats.

Whether you are bringing your family to Kuala Lumpur on holiday or if you are on a short visit to the city, the wide variety of shows at this park is truly worth watching. It is easily accessible from hotels and resorts as well as a Kuala Lumpur service apartment that one can find in the city. A short stay apartment in Kuala Lumpur such as the Somerset Seri Bukit Ceylon is ideal for both families with children and also business travellers to Kuala Lumpur who are looking for a luxurious home away from home during their travels.
